Paxil Class Action Lawsuit

The drug Paxil, the GlaxoSmithKline company’s trade name for paroxetine, has a long history with no shortage of controversy. Paxil lawsuit birth defects claims have involved everything from consumer fraud to a host of birth defects. Paxil birth defects are mostly associated with the heart, lungs and brain. The most common birth defect caused by Paxil is PPHN, an acronym for Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension in the Newborn. This condition is life threatening and may be very long-term in its effects. The affected infant may never breathe correctly if they’re affected by this disorder.

Paxil Side Effects

Paroxetine is associated with a host of side effects. The manufacturer has been accused of misleading consumers about some of these effects in an effort to make their drug more marketable. Some of the side effects of Paxil are very distressing. This drug has been known to cause its users to have suicidal tendencies. The drug is currently not prescribed to minors.

Pregnant women will be advised to discontinue Paxil use due to the risk of Paxil birth defects including Paxil PPHN, omphalocele, and craniosynostosis . Many of these women found out that quitting the drug was much more difficult than they may have imagined. This drug was advertised as being non-habit forming. In 2004, the FDA found that GlaxoSmithKline had misled consumers in these advertisements. One of the most well known Paxil side effects is the difficulty that presents itself to those who need to get off of this drug.

There have been numerous Paxil lawsuits; nearly 5,000, in fact. The company has already paid out 2.5 million dollars in consumer fraud claims. The company, however, has made well over 2 billion dollars off the sale of this drug, which is still popular despite the many problems.

What Paxil Is

Paxil is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. The drug is considered to be among the most effective—and is sometimes regarded as the most effective—of this family of drugs. It is used to treat a wide range of medical problems.

You may have been prescribed Paxil to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and depression, compulsive gambling or the hot flashes that accompany menopause. Paxil side effects encompass a long list of items.

Paxil birth defects can include cardiovascular malformations of many kinds, and the FDA recommends that pregnant women discontinue use as soon as they know they’re pregnant. If your child developed birth defects including Paxil PPHN, you may be eligible to file a Paxil lawsuit. Claims are currently being filed individually and there is no national Paxil class action lawsuit. Pregnancy cases have already been filed, and there is strong evidence that paroxetine causes specific and devastating birth defects. If you were prescribed this medication and your child has suffered a birth defect, you should contact an attorney to discuss your legal options.

Kugel Mesh Settlement Amounts

Kugel hernia patch litigation is currently ongoing and some claimants that filed early cases have been able to receive Kugel mesh settlement amounts. Though it may not seem like it at first glance, suffering with a hernia can be an extremely painful and debilitating medical condition. Medical science has provided all manner of treatments and procedures designed to alleviate the symptoms (and the hernia itself). Everything from lasers to medications to invasive surgery is routinely employed to treat all types of hernias.

In recent years, a new type of treatment was developed by a doctor named Robert Kugel. The treatment was the Kugel hernia mesh implant. This patch is surgically inserted into a patient’s inner abdominal cavity, where it repairs the abdominal wall following the surgical removal of a hernia. The hernia mesh implant is placed in parts of the inner abdominal wall where scar tissue has weakened the inner lining of the abdominal cavity.

To understand how the Kugel hernia mesh implant is causing adverse side effects, it helps to have a little background on hernias and hernia treatments. L

What Is A Hernia?

A hernia is a tear or a weak spot in the muscular tissue of the inner wall of a patient’s abdomen. Any such tear or weakness results in a peculiar bulge protruding on the inside of the abdominal wall, and can make everyday activities extremely painful. These activities include anything that causes compression or extension of the abdominal cavity, such as coughing hard, lifting, bending, and any number of natural biological processes.

What Is A Hernia Mesh Implant?

Dr. Robert Kugel developed the hernia mesh implant as a way to treat patients who have had a hernia surgically removed. The hernia mesh implant is grafted onto the weak spots or tears left behind following a hernia’s removal, in order to make the affected area strong, and to allow the area to heal properly.

The Kugel hernia mesh implant was manufactured and distributed by the company Davol, Inc., and is often referred to as the Bard Composix hernia patch. The mesh hernia patch is made of a polypropylene dual layer material that centers around an outer memory recoil ring.

Why Were The Kugel Mesh Implants Recalled?

It is alleged that the Kugel hernia mesh patch has a defective outer memory recoil ring that can split, tear or rupture if the inner abdominal cavity is compressed or extended during physically demanding endeavors. Also, there are many reports of extensive and dangerous side effects related to the Kugel hernia mesh implants, leading to the hernia mesh recall in 2005.

What Are The Side Effects Of Hernia Mesh Implants?

One reported “side effect” of a failure of the Kugel hernia mesh implant is bowel perforation caused by sharp or frayed edges of the mesh puncturing or slicing into nearby internal organs. For many patients, the onset of different kinds of infections following the implant surgery also occurs. Most of these hernia mesh side effects require immediate surgery to repair and to extract the mesh patch before it does any further damage to internal organs. In some cases, the Kugel mesh side effects are permanent, and cannot be repaired by surgery or medical treatment. If you have suffered from complications due to defective mesh, you are encouraged to investigate your legal rights including filing a hernia patch lawsuit. There is a limited time to file claims based on statute of limitations that apply to your case.

Nuvaring Side Effects

Otherwise healthy women may be exposed to the side effects of Nuvaring side effects involving blood clots without being fully aware of the dangers. These clots (also called thrombi) can form in the veins and arteries. Some, like those that form in superficial veins near the surface of your skin, are relatively harmless. Others form in the deep veins and can break off and travel to other areas of your body, notably the heart and lungs. Still other thrombi develop directly within the arteries. These pose a risk of triggering pulmonary embolism, stroke, heart attack, and other medical emergencies.

Nuvaring releases estrogen and desogestrel through the vaginal wall into the bloodstream. These hormones do not directly form blood clots; coagulation requires platelets and your body’s thrombin system. Instead, estrogen and desogestrel increase the likelihood your blood will clot, which can lead to several dangerous Nuvaring side effects.

Basics Of Blood Clot Formation

When a blood vessel is injured, platelets arrive at the scene to form the initial plug. Platelets are small fragments of cells that are produced in bone marrow. When a venous injury occurs, they undergo a chemical process during which their surface becomes sticky. They aggregate and form a protective covering over the injury.

While platelets are clumping together to form a plug, your thrombin system activates proteins and triggers a cascade of clotting factors. One of these proteins is fibrinogen. During the coagulation cascade, fibrinogen converts into fibrin, a protein that appears like a strand of sticky material. These strands interlink over the platelet plug, tightening and strengthening the clot in the process.

Blood Clots And Deep Vein Thrombosis

As mentioned earlier, blood clots can form in the deep veins – usually in the legs. This is a dangerous condition known as deep vein thrombosis, or DVT. It occurs for one of three reasons: injury to the venous wall, reduced blood flow, or factors that contribute to hypercoagulability (i.e. called thrombophilia). This last circumstance is particularly noteworthy since it involves the hormones released by Nuvaring into the bloodstream.

Nuvaring and DVT problems are dangerous because the deep veins of your legs are surrounded by muscles. When the muscles contract, they squeeze the veins and pump blood to your heart. They can also cause blood clots to break away from the venous wall (i.e. to embolize), allowing them to travel to your heart and lungs. This places you at risk of pulmonary embolism, hypertension, arrhythmias, and right-sided heart failure.

In rare cases, emboli can travel through a hole in the interatrial septum, the wall that separates the two sides of your heart. This allows them to bypass your lungs and potentially emerge in your aorta. If this occurs, the clots might travel to your brain, where they can block a carotid artery and cause a stroke.

Nuvaring Lawsuit

Your body normally initiates a clot-dissolving mechanism once venous injuries have been repaired. With blood clots, medications are often necessary. Anticoagulant drugs, such as heparin (Coumadin) and warfarin, can be administered to slow the conversion of fibrinogen into fibrin strands. This reduces the rate of coagulation. Antiplatelet medications, such as aspirin and clopidrogel (Plavix), are designed to reduce the “sticky” quality of platelets. This prevents them from aggregating and forming a plug.

If a thrombus is large and poses a high risk of breaking away and traveling to your heart, more aggressive drugs can be administered. Thrombolytic medications (also called fibrinolytics), such as tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and streptokinase, are used to activate plasminogen. This triggers a chemical reaction during which plasminogen converts into plasmin. Plasmin digests fibrin strands, which helps dissolve blood clots.

Nuvaring and blood clots are dangerous, especially when they form in the deep veins. Fortunately, they can be treated successfully. That said, if you have suffered abnormal clotting, DVT, pulmonary embolism, or other Nuvaring side effects, you may have the right to file a claim for compensation. Accutane Lawsuit Crohn’s

If you have been diagnosed with Accutane Crohn’s disease symptoms, a painful bowel disease, and have ever taken the acne mediation Accutane, you may need to look at that medication as a potential contributing factor for your disease. For the past couple of years, researchers have been looking into this medication as a potential cause of bowel diseases like Crohn’s. Some have won lawsuits against Roche Pharmaceuticals, the company who manufactured Accutane until it was pulled off the market in 2009, because of the consequences of the medication for them.

What Is Crohn’s Disease?

Maybe you’ve heard a little something about Crohn’s disease and aren’t quite sure what it is. Basically, it is a problem in which part of the intestines become inflamed deep into the tissue. The inflammation causes all sorts of problems, and there is no known actual cure for this disease.

Symptoms of Accutane Crohn’s disease are just like those of Crohn’s disease caused by other factors. The symptoms can come about when a patient is using Accutane, but they may not manifest until months or years after use of the medication has ceased. The medication seems to have a long-term degenerative effect on the bowels that may not be felt for some time, but that can come on after just a few weeks of using the medication.

Symptoms of Crohn’s disease include chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramps, bloody stools, reduced appetite, unexplained weight loss, and even fever and fatigue. If you are experiencing several of these symptoms at once, you need to consult a doctor to start treatment as soon as possible.

Treatments for Crohn’s Disease

Unfortunately, there is no actual cure for Accutane side effects long term. Many sufferers keep experiencing symptoms for decades after the original symptoms present. It can cause other problems, including ulcers and fistulas, and it has even been linked to a higher incidence of colon cancer.

Although there is no cure for Crohn’s disease, it can be treated in a variety of ways. Many patients use anti-inflammatory medications and immune suppressants to control the inflammation. Of course, these come with side effects of their own, as well. Antibiotics and medications specifically for the symptoms of the disease may also offer some relief. In extreme cases, patients must have part of their intestines removed to get rid of most of the diseased portions. All Crohn’s patients end up making dietary and lifestyle changes that affect them for the rest of their lives.

Accutane Lawsuit Crohn’s Disease

Science doesn’t yet tell us why Accutane causes Crohn’s, but many studies have linked it to the disease. This is why there are many pending Accutane lawsuit 2010 claims against the manufacturer of the drug. Patients claim that Roche Pharmaceuticals, who created Accutane, did not adequately warn them of the risks of developing Accutane Crohn’s disease. If you have developed Crohn’s disease because of Accutane, you may also be able to get compensation for the pain and suffering you’ve endured.

Yaz Lawsuit Update

Ocella, Yasmin and Yaz and blood clots have put some women at risk of experiencing dangerous side effects. Some, like deep vein thrombosis, can cause persistent pain and circulation problems. Others, like stroke, can lead to long-term physical and mental impairments. Still others, such as pulmonary embolism and heart attack, can be fatal. Please contact us for the latest Yaz lawsuit update news.

This birth control pill contains two hormones that are responsible for many of the clotting disorders suffered by women. The first, estrogen, is a steroid hormone with a long history of contributing to abnormal clots. The second, drospirenone, is a comparatively new synthetic progestin included in fourth-generation oral contraceptives. It too, increases the risk of clotting. The following are the most severe Yaz blood clot problems.

Deep Vein Thrombosis

Venous blood clots can form in superficial veins or deep veins (typically, in the legs). Clots in the former are rarely problematic since they rarely detach from the blood vessel’s lining. Clots in the deep veins, however, are dangerous. This is a condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Your deep veins lie buried among groups of muscles. These muscles contract around the veins, squeezing them and sending blood to your heart and lungs. As long as clots remain attached to the venous wall, they present no immediate danger. If a piece of a clot breaks away, however, it will travel with your bloodstream. This exposes you to a risk of pulmonary embolism (discussed below). Litigation is ongoing and there are currently not any Yaz lawsuit settlement amounts to report.

Venous Valve Damage

The direction in which your blood flows within your deep veins is controlled by small one-way valves. These valves help ensure blood moves from your limbs toward your heart and lungs. Without them, blood would pool in your veins.

With DVT, the valves in the legs become damaged and unable to perform their job effectively. This is called post-thrombotic syndrome. Inflammation overwhelms the valves and makes them less capable of preventing blood from pooling. This leads to pain and swelling, and can also cause additional blood clots to form.

Pulmonary Infarction

The main danger of blood clots in the leg veins is the increased risk of pulmonary embolism. Recall that clots can break away from the deep venous lining and travel with your blood to your heart. Blood normally flows from your extremities into the right side of your heart. It is then pumped to your lungs through the pulmonary arteries.

Migrating clots (i.e. emboli) that have traveled to your heart can be carried into one of these arteries. If they form a blockage and prevent blood from reaching your lungs, they can cause lung damage and even tissue death. This is called pulmonary infarction. While uncommon, it is a potential consequence of a severe pulmonary embolism.

Myocardial Infarction

Yaz blood clots can cause a heart attack (i.e. myocardial infarction) if they form within the atrium or ventricle on the left side of your heart. Clot formation within these two chambers can occur due to a sequence of events that begins with DVT.

Small emboli that form a partial blockage in the pulmonary arteries can increase blood pressure in your lungs. This is called pulmonary hypertension. It can lead to atrial fibrillation (Afib), a type of arrhythmia where your atria beat erratically.

Afib can cause blood to pool within the left atrium, which leads to clotting. If a clot breaks away from the left atrium, it can travel through the left ventricle and into your aorta. If it moves into a coronary artery and forms a blockage, you will suffer a heart attack.

Cerebral Infarction

The above sequence of events can also expose you to a stroke. Once a clot leaves your heart and travels into your aorta, it can migrate past your coronary arteries and toward your brain. If it moves into a carotid artery and obstructs blood flow to your brain tissue, you will suffer a stroke.

Strokes are rarely fatal, but can cause severe impairments. From partial paralysis and vision problems, to speech-related impairments and cognitive difficulties, a stroke may dramatically impact your quality of life.

Blood clots are responsible for causing some of the most serious Yasmin, Ocell and Yaz side effects. If you or someone you know has suffered DVT, pulmonary embolism, heart attack, or stroke after using this birth control, contact a Yaz class action lawsuit attorney. You may have the right to file a claim for compensation for your injuries.

Paxil Birth Defect Lawsuit

In the early part of the first decade of the 21st century, a new drug came on the market that proclaimed to help those afflicted with severe clinical depression in a way that no drug had yet been able to match. And for the most part, the drug worked to help patients overcome all manner of issues related to the onset of clinical depression. Unfortunately, there are some serious side effects to the drug as well. The name of the medication is Paxil, and there has been growing controversy regarding the effects of the drug. Families affected by this drug continue to look at their legal options, including filing a Paxil birth defect lawsuit.

What Is Paxil?

Paxil is a medication produced and distributed by GlaxoSmithKline, the multibillion-dollar pharmaceuticals company that has produced hundreds of medications treating many different medical conditions. Paxil is a medication intended to treat severe cases of depression in patients that have been completely unresponsive to other, more traditional forms of treatment and therapy.

Paxil itself is chemically known as Paroxetene Hydrochloride, and it is a powerful antidepressant that works by inhibiting serotonin receptors in the brain. It has been prescribed in the treatment of a vast array of mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, manic episodes, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Have There Been Many Paxil Lawsuits to Date?

The short answer is, yes. There have been many lawsuits filed against GlaxoSmithKline, and against doctors who have prescribed Paxil to patients who were pregnant or were planning to become pregnant. Many of these lawsuits focus on Paxil birth defects, including Paxil PPHN (Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension in Newborns) and a variety of other cardiopulmonary conditions in newborns.

GlaxoSmithKline revised the warnings and recommendations for Paxil in 2005, when the FDA issued a health advisory, warning that Paxil posed significant risk for a variety of side effects, including birth defects and suicidal thoughts. Most cases are still pending in litigation and it is anticipated that there will be more Paxil lawsuit settlements in the future.

What Are the Birth Defects?

One of the most commonly diagnosed birth defects brought on by the use of Paxil by pregnant women is Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension in Newborns (PPHN). PPHN is a cardiopulmonary disorder that prevents the vascular system from pumping blood through the heart, which forces the body to push blood through fetal channels. That can cause severe developmental problems as the newborn grows.

Paxil can also cause different types of congenital heart disorders in newborns, including holes, thin aortic muscle fibers and other cardiopulmonary conditions that can cause developmental problems, and in extreme cases, death.

Are There Other Side Effects of Paxil?

Paxil has been linked to chronic weight gain, irritability, suicidal thoughts and other physiological issues. Along with the large number of Paxil and pregnancy lawsuits for birth defects, there have also been wrongful death lawsuits for patients that committed suicide while taking Paxil for depression. In fact, it was a number of suicide attempts that prompted the FDA to issue a health warning regarding Paxil. This new warning then prompted GlaxoSmithKline to adopt a stronger health warning for the medication.

Kugel Mesh Recall

From improved and medical device technology to a veritable golden age of surgical innovation, it seems as though the sky is the limit as far as the possibilities of our technological innovation go. However, there are always setbacks. In fact, given the current state of modern medicine it is often hard for regulators to keep up with all of the advancements and new products which can lead to defective products entering the marketplace. This is often followed by a host of recalls and lawsuits announced in the wake of many high profile problems with leading medications and treatments. One of these defective products was involved in the Kugel mesh recall.

With the recent hernia mesh recall, it seems that a once promising new product has turned out to be linked with serious complications and significant side effects that can be incredibly debilitating. One more “innovation” can be added to this list. Davol, Inc., the makers of the Bard Composix hernia mesh patch, is currently facing lawsuits from thousands of litigants regarding a major defective flaw in their hernia mesh implants.

How the Hernia Mesh Implant Works

Dr. Robert Kugel developed a mesh patch designed specifically for patients who had recently had a hernia removed from the interior of their abdominal wall. When a hernia is surgically removed, there is significant build up of scar tissue, and parts of the inner abdominal wall are extremely weak. Kugel’s mesh patch is surgically grafted into the abdominal wall where a hernia was removed, to help shore up the inner lining of the abdomen, and to allow the area to heal quickly.

The Different Types of Hernias

Hernias basically come in four main types. There is the direct hernia, which is a hernia that juts out from a tear in the wall of the interior abdominal cavity. Indirect hernias are ones that do not protrude completely. Femoral hernias are hernias that protrude into the intestines due to an extreme failure of the inner abdominal wall, and ventral hernias are found in the upper part of the abdominal cavity. Ventral hernias are often not painful, and are only revealed while treating more immediately painful hernias.

Hernia Mesh Infections and Other Hernia Mesh Complications

The mesh patch is comprised of a center memory recoil ring that, once placed into the interior wall of the abdomen, snaps the mesh into place. The problem for Davol, Inc., is that these memory recoil rings were defective. They were prone to rupturing inside the abdominal cavities of patients when the abdomen was compressed or extended, such as during most types of physical exertion.

When the hernia mesh patches rupture, they send jagged and sharp pieces of the mesh implant jutting out into the interior of the abdominal cavity, which threatens nearby internal organs. The most common complication from the mesh implants is the perforation of the bowels by a jagged piece of the implant. Often, these punctures and perforations cause severe septic infections. It was the defective recoil rings that prompted Davol to issue a hernia mesh recall of all of the Kugel patches. Please contact us for the latest Kugel mesh settlement information and updates.

Medtronic Recall News

If you have certain models of Medtronic leads connected to your implanted defibrillator device, you may have received a Medtronic recall notice. There are Medtronic Sprint Fidelis lawsuits which has been consolidated through multi-district litigation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. All of this centers on a particular defect that was discovered in certain models of these leads. The Sprint Fidelis lead fracture hazard is very real and, potentially, it can affect the performance of your defibrillator, whether it happens when you’re actively having an arrhythmic event or not.

The Affected Devices

There are four products that are included in the Sprint Fidelis Medtronic lead recall. The following models are affected:

• Sprint Fidelis 6930
• Sprint Fidelis 6931
• Sprint Fidelis 6948
Sprint Fidelis 6949

If you’re implanted with one of these devices, you likely received a notice that you’re affected by the Sprint Fidelis lead recall already. If you’re not sure, you need to contact your doctor to find out whether or not you have one of these devices as part of your defibrillator implant.

The problems with these devices are significant, and center on the tendency of them to fracture, which creates a host of reliability problems.

The Nature of the Medtronic Lead Fracture Problems

The defibrillator device, when working correctly, detects abnormal heart beats and provides an electric shock that puts the heart back into a normal rhythm. The Medtronic lead failure affects the leads that deliver this shock. It can result in a host of potentially unpleasant side effects, and can cause the device to perform unreliably.

A Sprint Fidelis lead fracture can cause the device to deliver shocks to the heart at the wrong times. This may be experienced as a physical sensation of being shocked, as lightheadedness and as dizziness. While this is an issue in and of itself, it can be more hazardous still.

If the Medtronic lead failure affects the intended operation of one of these devices, the consequences may be deadly. Because the device isn’t functioning properly, there’s no way to ensure that issues won’t manifest when the leads are supposed to deliver a life-saving jolt of electricity to the heart. While it may seem that the obvious solution is to have the devices removed to eliminate the possibility of a Sprint Fidelis lead fracture, there are complications involved in this, as well.

The Medtronic Sprint Fidelis Lawsuit

The Medtronic lawsuit 2010 claims regarding this issue is centered in Minneapolis, MN, because the manufacturer’s headquarters are located in Minnesota. There are over 100,000 patients who received the products that are the subject of the Medtronic Sprint Fidelis recall. If you’re one of them, you may be eligible to participate in the lawsuit. The Medtronic lead fracture case is ongoing and may provide recourse for those who have these devices implanted in their bodies and who, therefore, live with the associated risks every day.

Nuvaring Lawyers

Studies have indicated that newer generation hormone-based contraceptives, including Nuvaring, have several potential side effects. These Nuvaring side effects include serious health threats that can result in death or impairment for life. They include strokes, heart attacks and a blood clot condition called deep venous thrombosis, which can be deadly under certain conditions. If you have suffered serious side effects Nuvaring lawyers can discuss your legal options including filing deadlines.

Nuvaring And Blood Clot Symptoms

Blood clots are capable of causing death and lifelong reductions in cognitive, motor and other skills. These clots can potentially break free, floating through the blood stream and becoming what’s called a pulmonary embolism, a potentially lethal medical emergency.

Deep venous thrombosis is another potentially lethal condition, known as DVT. In patients with DVT, a blood clot forms in the deep veins or arteries in the body. When the muscles around the clot contract, there is the potential to dislodge the blood clot, leading to a pulmonary embolism, a stroke or a heart attack. When any Nuvaring side effects that involve blood clotting are discovered, the treatments are usually not pleasant, but they are most certainly necessary.

Nuvaring Side Effects and Their Treatments

If you suffer Nuvaring problems that cause your blood to clot, you’ll likely be given a blood-thinner, provided that the situation is not critical. Two popular drugs used for this sort of treatment include warfarin and heparin. Neither of these medications can be taken lightly due to their own side effects.

Blood-thinners have serious side effects of their own. Because the blood is thinned, it’s possible to bleed heavily from minor wounds, even to dangerous extremes. This medication, however, represents only the long term treatment for some conditions that have been shown to be related to Nuvaring blood clots problems. Some of the short-term, emergency treatments are even more powerful, including the thrombolytic drugs used for clot-busting.

The Risks of Nuvaring And Blood Clots

Among the authorities that have stated that the evidence that link hormonal birth control products with blood clots is the FDA. In 1995, the agency stated that there is a twofold increase for the risk of blood clots compared to the risk posed by other birth-control products. The birth control ring, like many other birth-control products, uses hormones to control the body’s reproductive cycle. In the case of the Nuvaring contraceptive, it releases these hormones directly into the bloodstream.

If you’ve experienced the Nuvaring problems listed above, you may be able to file a Nuvaring lawsuit. Filing a lawsuit is a way for you to receive compensation for your pain and suffering. Nuvaring side effects are potentially deadly. If you’ve been experiencing any of the symptoms of blood clots or deep venous thrombosis, you need to visit a doctor immediately. The sooner these conditions are treated, the better off you’ll be. You may be able to file a Nuvaring lawsuit to recover the costs of treatment for the side effects.

Accutane Lawsuits

Many people that have cases of acne, and severe acne, have few places in which to turn to for treatment. The frustrating fact of the matter is that acne conditions are extremely difficult to effectively treat on a permanent basis. Many years ago, Roche Pharmaceuticals developed and distributed an acne treatment that promised phenomenal results. The drug is called Accutane, and it was prescribed by doctors for patients suffering the worst forms of acne, for which all other treatments had been ineffective. And though Accutane is largely effective for treating cases of severe acne – more than half of those patients treated saw their acne disappear – Accutane brought about something much worse for many.

The long term side effects of Accutane have been affecting consumers for years now, and the results have been, frankly, unsettling. Here is a break down of the most common side effects of the medication, and the recent legal ramifications of Accutane lawsuits.

Information on Accutane Lawsuits

Roche Pharmaceuticals cases has been tried several times based on the damage caused by the side effects of Accutane, and they have lost every case. This has resulted in the drug maker paying out millions in compensatory damages. Worse, still, for Roche Pharmaceuticals is the fact that more than 1,000 Accutane lawsuits have been filed against them, and are in pending litigation. There is a movement on the part of some plaintiffs to consolidate their lawsuits into a single class action suit, but that movement is still preliminary.

What Are the Side Effects of Accutane?

Accutane’s long term side effects include a wide array of physiological and mental diseases. Among the worst are Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases such as Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, liver damage and severe depression followed by suicidal thoughts and inclinations. Many of the cases against Roche Pharmaceuticals are Accutane related Crohn’s Disease lawsuits, as that seems the most common side effect of the acne treatment. Also, if Accutane is taken by women who are pregnant, serious birth defects may result.

How Does Accutane Work In the Body?

Accutane works in the human body by shutting down a patient’s glands that produce oils. Unfortunately, this can lead to all manner of malfunctions in the autoimmune system, which allows for the onset of many forms of Accutane inflammatory bowel disease. Again, while Crohn’s Disease is the most common, it is also possible for Accutane patients to develop Ulcerative Colitis, which can be fatal. The worst part of these Accutane generated IBDs is that they are chronic conditions with no known cure. For one month of acne treatments, many patients face a lifetime of severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, inflamed intestines and possible surgery to remove diseased parts of the lower intestine.
